Position: Academic Director

Reporting to: The Provost

Purpose of the Job:

Reporting to the Provost, the Academic Director is the lead coordinator of all daily academic operations in the college. The Dean works in close collaboration with the Academic Director, heads of research and institutional effectiveness, and Heads of Academics and Program Managers to ensure coordination and timely completion of projects, reports, scheduling, meetings budgets, program advisory boards, accreditation, and internal and external communications, to ensure efficient, compliant, and high quality academic operations. Similarly, the Dean also facilitates appropriate coordination and communication with other college departments to ensure effective collaboration between academics and student enrolment, student services and shared services. The Dean works closely with other academic leaders and faculty in the college to ensure high levels of operational effectiveness and efficiency, including achievement of identified performance objectives/KPIs such as student and faculty retention, enrolment growth, placement, and all operational deadlines. The Dean of Academic Operations is both an academic and business leader with the Academics department.

Main duties:

  • Serves on the College Council
  • Monitors academic related budgets
  • Monitors KPIs
  • Manages student appeals and special requests
  • Provides advisory recommendations to the Provost on all operational issues
  • Coordinates internal and external communications
  • Works directly with program heads to coordinate daily operations (scheduling, hiring, supplies, meetings, partnerships, resourcing, labs, library, etc.)
  • Coordinates external reporting
  • Ensures adherence to academic policies
  • Manages coordination with non-academic departments and shared services
  • Ensures high level communications within Academics and between Academics and other college departments
  • Supports Provost with academic operational and strategic planning
  • Supports Program Heads/faculty/SMEs with new program development
  • Supports faculty recruitment and development
  • Coordinates periodic program reviews to ensure up-to-date curriculum, appropriate internship/clinical opportunities, appropriate accreditation status, etc.
  • Assists provost as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the President

Qualification

  • Doctorate Degree
  • A record of successful academic operations at the program level or above.

Experience

  • Minimum two to five years of operational experience at the level of Program Director/Dean
  • Experience with budgets, personnel, communications, external reporting, accreditation, planning, and the use of technology in higher education.
