Dr. Santosh Ray, Associate Professor and Head of IT Department and Research at Khawarizmi International College, participated in a research talk organized by the Department of Science Technology & Research, where he presented his take on the implementation of Big Data in the Higher Education sector and its implications.
In the context of the growing popularity of online and blended learning formats, which was facilitated by COVID-19 pandemic, higher education institutions, now more than ever, have access to massive data sets. Dr. Ray pointed out that these data sets have the potential to aid in improving the educational experience and meet the requirements of quality education.
Big data, as Dr. Ray mentioned, allows personalizing education, catering to individual student requirements. In addition to personalizing the educational journey, improvements in education services can be also tackled from the perspective of pre-emptive remedial actions, that aim to reduce dropouts, based on collected datasets.
