KIC Business department organized a Career Development Workshop on “Strategically positioning our students in a post-Covid VUCA World.”
The workshop aimed at preparing KIC students to face the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) World, and was led by Dr. Adnan Jawabri, Program Leader and Assistant Professor, Business Department, and Mr. Sanjay Prabhu, Lecturer at Business Administration.
On a welcome note, Dr. Jawabri urged the students to prepare themselves for a post-COVID-19 VUCA world by countering volatility with vision, meeting uncertainty with understanding, reacting to complexity with clarity, and fighting ambiguity with agility.
Mr. Prabhu highlighted that His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, alerted the youth of UAE and called upon them to be ready for a different era with a more focus on adopting digital skills and lifelong learning.
Mr. Prabhu said that many jobs are available in the present market, but some of the skills do not match. He made his case by demonstrating LinkedIn profiles in comparison to Job postings on LinkedIn. He demonstrated to the students the methods used to identify and adopt the required skills of the future job market and requested students to adopt the multiple skills with more focus on Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, and Digital Marketing and during the session, he also demonstrated how to register for free online courses using online portals such as Coursera, EdX and build the required skills of the future.
In concluding remarks Dr. Majdi Khaleeli, Head of Business Department, thanked the participants and urged the students to adopt the knowledge not just from the books, but also monitor changes happening in the external environment, and accordingly prepare strategies to adopt the new skills to remain competitive in the job market and achieve the set career goals.
