Wrapping up 2020, KIC Mass Communication Department held its 6th Media Harvest.
The theme of the latest installment of Media Harvest was ‘Student’s Creativity in eLearning’ reflecting the impact of the pandemic and the adapted format of the event.
Media Harvest is an annual platform that allows KIC Mass Communication students to present their media projects to KIC community and industry professionals.
Following the agenda’s tradition, the opening sequence included the UAE national anthem, Quran verse, KIC history overview since 1985. Dr. Assem Al-Hajj, KIC President, Prof. Nabil El Kadhi, KIC VP for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Ibnaouf Hasan, KIC Mass Communication Department Head, welcomed the esteemed guests and students.
The Mass Communication students presented their media projects, related to channels, documentaries, and press. KIC Mass Communication graduates also participated in the event. Some of the projects, among many others, included ‘Leanne Emaraty’, and ‘Towards Responsible Media’ covering topics such as COVID-19. Other projects covered topics related to Abu Dhabi Tourism, Basma Media Journal, Frontliners initiative, ‘Be Safe when Browsing’ that aimed to increase awareness about safe web surfing experience, ‘Media and Crisis’ and report on Vloggers.
Media Harvest events attract industry professionals and notable guests. This year, KIC was honored to welcome Sheikh Abid bin Suhail al Maktoum. Mr. Hareb Al Suwaidi and Mr. Yacoub Al Roussi (Abu Dhabi Radio), Mr. Rashed Al Kharji (Sama Dubai), Mr. Yousuf Saleh (Sharjah TV), and Mr. Jassim Obaid (Abu Dhabi Police), were among the prominent journalists who attended the event. KIC also thanks Dr. Saeed Al Romaithi (Abu Dhabi Municipality), Dr. Mohammed Ismail (University of Cairo), Dr. Mohammed Rida and Dr. Zainab Al Nobaithi from Saudi Arabia, for attending the event, among many other guests from the media industry.
Tribute was paid tribute to Mr. Ibrahim Al Abed, founder of the Emirates News Agency WAM and former director-general of the National Media Council (NMC), who died at home in Abu Dhabi on October 20. During the fifth installment of Media Harvest, he told KIC students media harvest. ‘You are the future.’
