Career and Alumni Unit, in cooperation with Business Department, organized a career development workshop to discuss hard and soft skills that will be demanded for the future graduates.
Led by Dr. Suja Pradeep, Assistant Professor, Business Department, the workshop highlighted several factors that will define the job market of tomorrow, being driven by global and UAE specific trends.
When it comes to business, it is expected that the emergence of new jobs, such as Data Analysts and Scientists, AI and Machine Learning Specialists, Digital Marketing and Strategy Specialists, Big Data Specialists, Process Automation Specialists, and Digital Transformation Specialists, among others, will mean that some popular specializations will virtually disappear. As thus, the job seekers will be expected to have in their arsenal a specific mix of soft skills and hard skills to stay relevant to the job market.
Although specialists will be expected to have a unique skillset, depending on the job they are applying for, there are four core skills that would identify professionals who would stand out. Resilience and adaptability, emotional intelligence, self-development and active pursuit of new forms of learning, and entrepreneurship and self-promotion, are the essential skills to master. Adding these entrepreneurial and self-management skills to the unique skill set, will address the challenges of the future job market.
