On Wuhan Coronavirus

Don’t Panic!! The UAE Government is keeping people updated on their Twitter feed.

By now you already know that Wuhan Coronavirus has originated in Wuhan, China. But what is a coronavirus and what can you do about it to stay safe.

There is a family of viruses called Corona. The name is attributed to the crown shape of the viruses. These viruses typically attack the respiratory system. Thus, the symptoms can range from mild, like a cold, to severe, where the person may have difficulty breathing. Although researchers think the virus originated in wild animals on sale in a market in Wuhan, they are still figuring out the precise origin and how it works. The virus crossed species, from animals to humans, and is now transmitted from human to human.

Because it’s a new strain of the virus, there is no medication to treat it. Right now we are all susceptible because we were not exposed to it before and it will take time for our immune systems to develop antibodies to fight it off. But if our immune system is compromised, the results of being infected might be more severe and lead to hospitalization. Take simple precautions and follow these tips.

It’s imperative to bolster the immune system. A balanced diet that focuses on protein intake is vital, to enhance immunoglobulins (antibodies), which are protein at their core. The diet should also ensure the intake of vitamin C and Zinc. Be sure to drink lots of fluids and wash your hands frequently. Avoid crowded places and touching the T-Zone (eyes, nose, mouth). Be sure to have enough rest. Go to your doctor if you feel ill or experience difficulty in breathing.
