KIC has a functional Research Unit with operational policies, processes, strategies for research and innovation. The research themes of academic departments are consistent with the Global and UAE development plans, particularly the UAE and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. The primary objective of KIC in this area is to provide a collegiate environment in which research and staff development are primary activities and form the base of a developing academic community founded on the principles of innovation and inquisitiveness. The College seeks to raise its research profile and encourage the development of novel and applied research, both of which will add to the knowledge and help to solve specific business and technology problems associated with the development of the UAE as well as acting as teaching vehicles for further students’ engagement in the education process.

- Excellence in research and knowledge transfer activities leads to a strong reputation for quality that enhances future research and knowledge transfer as well as the recruitment and retention of high caliber faculty and enhancing the student experience at all levels of study.
- Excellence is achieved through dual responsibility: academics should be provided by the College with adequate resources to achieve excellence and, in return, are required to account for their use of these resources and its demonstrable impact on the progress of research or knowledge transfer outputs.
- Relationships built up through teaching leads to strong partnerships with bodies with whom the College engages in knowledge transfer, contract research, and consultancy.
- The College should offer research, consultancy, and knowledge transfer services at a reasonable and competitive price that seeks to recover the institution’s full costs over its portfolio of projects.
- The College should aim to ensure excellence in the quality of supervision, skills training, learning resources, and teaching.
Within the overarching aim to foster externally recognized excellence in research KIC seeks to develop and publicize its research profile in the UAE, the Gulf region, worldwide, and support and extend the research environment by:
- Developing a research-based environment that encourages faculty and students to produce high-quality research outputs.
- Promoting and supporting multidisciplinary research and sharing good research practice in the college.
- Encouraging and supporting faculty to get research grants from national and international research funding bodies.
- Applying research to improve the quality of teaching and learning experience of the students in all academic programs.
- Enhance cooperative research through research collaboration, and strategic national and international partnerships.
